Hey 3Shape!
June 2, 2010
Came in this morning to a little surprise. Thought I would pass along my story just so others don’t make the same mistake…
Last week, we received a case involving three Nobel Replace Select abutments to support a 5-unit bridge in the lower right quadrant. Two of the abutments were the RP platform, and the third was a WP.
Obviously, we want all the abutments to be parallel to each other to allow for path of draw for the bridge framework. It was my understanding, that this was the primary function of the Grouping option in the 3Shape Abutment Designer Software.
Oops.
Turns out that when I grouped the three abutments, the software changed all the interfaces to the WP platform. Since I selected the WP platform last, I had no idea that the two RP platforms had been changed, and went right ahead with scan and design process. I suppose I should have noticed the similarity of the three abutments’ sizes during the design phase, but I wasn’t looking for it and just didn’t see it.
So…
All three abutments were milled using the WP platform. I’m out $300. I have to start over from scratch, and the case is going to be late.
Damn it.
Just an FYI for those of you who have this software. If anyone knows if there’s a work-around regarding this matter, please leave it as a comment. Thanks, Jeff
