Dentistry Today…
September 8, 2009
Just finished thumbing through the September ‘09 issue of Dentistry Today, couldn’t resist making a couple of comments -
1. Its always interesting to me how some laboratories approach marketing. In an article featuring Dr. David Hornbrook’s take on the three hottest topics in dentistry, he reveals that he is using a product named Emprethin Veneers for his no- or minimal-prep veneer cases. A website is conveniantly listed in the article, which turns out to be a link to laboratory site, and it appears that Emprethin is nothing more than a tradename coined by the lab – if I am reading things correctly, Emprethin veneers are nothing but Empress Esthetic veneers pressed and finished to ultra-thin dimensions. Hardly ground-breaking stuff. What’s more – if you read the disclosure at the end of the article, you will find Dr. Hornbrook has received past compensation from the afore-mentioned laboratory. Surprise, surprise…
2. In a separate article discussing the merits of digital impression systems, there is an excellent discussion (written by Amy Morgan of Pride Institute) of questions a practice should ask prior to purchasing any of the current systems. I highly recommend Ms. Morgan’s unbiased take if you’re contemplating leaping into digital impressions.
