Cadent iTero Feedback….
August 2, 2009
Driving out of town on Friday, I took the opportunity to call our client in Alaska, Dr. Jay Rohloff, who recently purchased the Cadent iTero digital impression system. We completed a handful of case for him last week, and I wanted to get his opinion…
“I delivered two single crowns, so far. Very slight proximal contact adjustment on both cases, and no occlusal adjustment whatsoever. The occlusion was perfect. I would say that of all the crowns we do, I probably have to do some occlusal adjustment on about 50% of the cases – nothing major, but some. These two crowns were just perfect.”
Jay went on to say that he had “impressed” an additional 4 -5 cases last week, and that we should be seeing those models shortly. I expressed my thoughts that if he continued to get similar results, we would probably increase our participation in Cadent’s lab program, at lease to the next level which would enable us to download his data files directly into our 3Shape CAD software, which would allow us to start working on his cases prior to receiving the physical models. (The next step from there would be for us to be able mark his margins, rather than have Cadent’s tech team do that process – I think we will eventually get there, but not until we have a few more Cadent clients). We agreed to temper our enthusiasm until we had more cases under our belts, and I will continue to share our results here on the blog.
I did call Mr. Mike Walsh, our Cadent rep, and tell him the good news. During our conversation, we agreed that it would be a good idea to co-host a Cadent iTero seminar for SDL clients, probably on October 13th (Watch the blog for exact time and location info).
I know we got our start with Lava COS, but I firmly believe we will need to be capable with each of the systems to maintain our competitiveness. Also, as Jay’s situation as pointed out – there are differences to each system that might make one system more attractive than the other based on personal preferences. In the end, I believe digital impressions are the future, and the demonstrable early success of both systems – plus Cerec’s BlueCam – will hasten the day when we no longer have to deal with the inherent inaccuracies of stone models.
